Ashley Wagner was given birth to on May 16, 1991, in Heidelberg. In her early teens, Ashley found herself hanging in with girls who were older, which impacted her self-esteem when she found them to be more mature and, she believed, more beautiful than her. Ashley describes herself as an "hot mess" when she was a teen. Ashley's mom put her in training to model so she would gain confidence. Ashley started to seriously consider a career as a model. Ashley's mom enrolled her in modeling classes in order to boost her confidence.
